Sarah Taylor's Stream of Consciousness
I'm working on something really special and exciting involving the state of young women in the world with a special focus on the arts, music, culture and developing nations. I'm collaborating, researching, learning, dreaming and creating. What are your thoughts? Ideas? Questions? Here are some of mine.
Moving to Inspire Movement
And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. - Anais Nin
The above quote has been on my mind for many months and I think it's essential meaning is a big part of where this new project is starting. It seems like the best thing you can do is realize all of your dreams, while helping other people do the same. In the words of Bob Dylan, "a man is a success if he gets up in the morning and gets to bed at night, and in between he does what he wants to do."
So, with that said, we're developing something exciting with Because I Am A Girl and this blog will be a forum to showcase what ideas inspired our process and exactly what we're about to do. I'll fill you in more as we get closer to an official start date. Let me know what you think.

The J.O.B.
The most challenging part of Sarah's gig is learning the importance of communication refinement. Citing one example in particular, her humour has been known to get her into trouble, like the time she called one famous interviewee "monkey boy." Oops. "It was a term of endearment taken incorrectly, but you live and learn." According to Sarah, the best part of being a VJ is "travelling, meeting amazing people, and free concert tickets!" If Sarah wasn't a VJ, she would most likely be an out of work nightclub singer with a weakness for world cinema, cereal and romance, or Alex Owen (Jennifer Beals) from Flashdance.
COMMUNICATION CONUNDRUM
On communication Sarah says "...the idea that I can be a bridge between die-hard music fans and their favourite artists, while having front row, all-access passes to some of the most mind blowing live performances is nothing less than incredible. While I've been fortunate to travel and have many life changing experiences on the job, the interview process has always been the most treasured, irreplaceable aspect of that."
FROM VIDEO EXTRA TO VIDEO VIXEN
Sarah's first gig in front of the camera had her working as a video extra. Unfortunately, it was not completely an enjoyable experience, "...there were a lot of close ups of my stomach...it was kind of awkward." She prefers her on air job now, being able to intro new artists to a music-hungry public.
