D-Sisive “Adam [MCA Tribute 1964-2012]” (MP3)

Toronto’s D-Sisive has paid his respects to the fallen Adam Yauch of Beastie Boys with a special tribute his simply calls “Adam.” Featuring an assortment of interview clips and mini-Beastie covers, he also threw in a few new verses of his own in the eight-minute medley.

D-Sisive told CBC Radio 3, “I knew I needed to pay homage somehow. I didn’t want to record the cliché tribute song, over soft piano and violins. The Beastie Boys weren’t that group. I can’t help but think of how much MCA would have hated the Coldplay tribute. The old MCA would have pegged Chris Martin with a full can of Budweiser. Apologies to Coldplay fans, but if you’re pre-’Intergalactic’ Beastie fans, you know I’m right.

“I kept thinking about how much the Beastie Boys changed my life and the way I listened to music,” D-Sisive says. “So influential at such a young age. I didn’t get most of the references, but I felt the music, and that’s what it’s all about. I grew with the Beastie Boys and the older I got, the more I understood the genius. They never left my side and are probably the most played group in my iPod. For the song I wanted to take it way back. Back when I would transcribe their lyrics in notebooks then perform them in my bedroom, wearing my father’s work jacket. I wanted to kick MCA verses. I was nine again.”
