TEAM DIGITAL Q&A: LUDACRIS
11.29.03
LUDACRISWhen he moves you move! We get the answers straight from Ludacris' mouf!

Team Digital: You wrote the concept for the 'Stand Up' video - was there anything you wanted to do in the video that wasn’t possible?

Ludacris: A bigass watch! Remember how everything was exaggerated in the video? I had big shoes and a big beer - when I said "But our time and our clothes gotta coordinate" I wanted them to make a really bigass watch.

Team Digital: On your latest album ‘Chicken & Beer’ you went with somewhat unknown producers - why?

Ludacris: I want it to be known in the industry that every one of my hit songs is with a different producer. I don’t want it to seem like I depend on one producer in order for my career to last long. I like working with different producers, especially hungry ones, to show that basically I’m the one behind the hit songs - it’s not just a producer that I work with.

Team Digital: So what is the key to maintaining versatility when you’re creating new music?

Ludacris: I just keep in mind that I know where I’ve been, I know where I haven’t been and I know what I haven’t done. It’s all about experimenting, trying new things, re-inventing yourself and taking things to that extra step and extra level. It’s just really trying to take time with the lyrics and make sure everything is perfected as opposed to just settling.

Team Digital: What music would people be surprised you listen to?

Ludacris: I love rock 'n roll music, like Puddle Of Mudd and Linkin Park and Staind. I have a whole CD of rock 'n roll I just love it. Oh and The White Stripes! [hums guitar riff from ‘Seven Nation Army’]

Team Digital: Are there any rockers you’d want to work with?

Ludacris: Now that’s a different story - that would be a little bit harder. The first rock n' roll group that I could probably think of working with would be Linkin Park because they’ve got a little hip hop feel to their sh*t anyway.

Team Digital: You were in 2Fast2Furious and you’re going to be in an upcoming film called ‘Crash’ - what do you get from the experience of acting that you don’t get from making music?

Ludacris: You get to stay in the same city for more than 2 days! That sh*t is great!

Team Digital: Chingy is known to be somewhat of a protégé of yours. Has he taught you anything?

Ludacris: Of course! He keeps me up on my game, knowing that when I came up I was just as hungry as he is. It’s just like me looking in the mirror and making sure I stay hungry and don’t get lazy. There are a lot of upcoming artists that are hungry and trying to do their thing, so he just teaches me to stay working hard.

Team Digital: Hip hop stars from the past are often referenced and well respected, but none are still really selling a lot of records. What is the key to longevity?

Ludacris: Painting a different picture every time. Adding a chapter to people knowing about my life every album, giving them more insight and letting them know more about me because once you stop imagining or wondering more about an artist - that’s when they stop being interesting. You have to stay interesting. There are a lot of parts of me that I haven’t let out to the world yet, that I will slowly start letting out.

Team Digital: You often rhyme about women - what makes women sexy to you?

Ludacris: I love women who aren’t afraid to try different things. Really spontaneous women and of course intelligent and beautiful. I like women who change up their style a lot - like change their hair, change their nails, things of that nature.

Team Digital: What do people from the south know about having a good time that nobody else does?

Ludacris: You don’t have to stay inside of one club the whole night! You have to at least hit 3-4 clubs! That’s what the ultimate party experience is all about - especially in Atlanta.
