Emily: It goes like this (makes a wave motion with her hand). Started high, it's a little rough down the middle, and at the end we have the exultation of a job well done.
MM.C: Kind of like a cosine graph.
Josh: Very much like a cosine graph.
James: Exhalation.
Emily: Exhalation, yeah.
MM.C: How did the songs on Live It Out evolve during your fall tour?
James: They didn't change too much. A couple of them go through a little evolution but they don't change too much.
MM.C: Last time we chatted, Emily said that she didn't want to tour in a van in the winter again. Have your travelling conditions improved?
Emily: We're now actually touring in the winter in a bus.
MM.C: So it's better now.
Josh: Well, buses are buses. It's way better!
Emily: Buses are bigger than vans, right?
James: Even if you're just in it for a little bit, it stays heated. And you don't end up waiting for someone going, "omigod can we go now, pleaaaaase?" There's none of that going on. I hate the "can we go now, please".
MM.C: When you're having a very meh day, how do you muster up the energy that you consistently show on stage?
James: Drink tequila.
Josh: Yeah, but also the stage is the easiest part to muster up that [energy], cause it's exciting for us.
Emily: Yeah.
Josh: We work hard to play music, so every time we get to play music, we're pretty excited.
James: And add tequila.
MM.C: Do you approach performing on TV differently than a concert?
Emily: I just wear more mascara.
James: And, uh, more tequila. I think we do tone it down a little bit. It is like a two-way thing. We put energy in and we get energy back, but on television the camera doesn't give you any energy back. You don't wanna get out there and look like a fool, freaking out.
MM.C: What's your sustenance of choice on the road?
James: All food.
Josh: Alchohol.
James: Food, drugs, alcohol, sex and music. And a little bit of gambling.
Josh: I've decided I'm not eating anymore. It's just gross, there's no good food on the road.
(At this point Emily asks the band's opinion on what to wear on air: cowboy boots or silver vintage pumps).
James: I think the boots.
Emily: How 'bout you?
MM.C: I like the shoes.
James: Ooooo.
Josh: And she's a girl.
James: I know I wear boots with dresses.
Josh: I'm sorry, we got distracted.
MM.C: That's ok! What came first when you were writing "Poster of a Girl" - the slinky keyboard line or the vocals?
James: Vocals kind of always come first. Emily usually has a song and then we figure out what to do with it.
Emily: (Random singing) Ba ba ba ba ba baaaa!
MM.C: When you were approached by a certain automobile manufacturer for the use of "Succexy", did part of you want to say, "hell ya!" or was it more like - "Succexy" isn't about cars at all!!
James: We were just basically like - there wasn't even a second thought after "no". It was just like, "no".
MM.C: What's your current favourite adjective?
Josh: Boo-ya!
James: My favourite adjective!
Josh: Complicated.
Emily: Fantastic!
Josh: Hot.
Emily: Actually, can I change mine? Morbid.
James: Favourite adjective...
Joules: Bull.
MM.C: Hey Joules, I noticed you were drumming with your shoes off during soundcheck --
Joules: You didn't see that.
Josh: Turn it off! Turn it off!
James: He's a country cousin.
(the band launches an impromptu fiddle noise/whooping session).
MM.C: Alright guys. In conclusion, how are you so cool?
Emily: Ohhh!
Joules: Cause we were born that way, yo.
Emily: Boredom is the key.
James: Yeah, that's probably why. I'm not convinced that we are.
