We believe he can fly! Karaoke kingpin Spike from Me First And The Gimme Gimmes cruised through MuchMusic HQ. We chatted with the frontman from everyone's favourite punk rock cover band and reveled in all his Hawaiian shirt glory.

Team Digital: Me First And The Gimme Gimmes are a punk rock supergroup comprised of Fat Mike (NOFX), Chris Shiflett (Foo Fighters, No Use For A Name), Joey Cape (Lagwagon, Bad Astronaut), Dave Raun (Lagwagon, RKL) and you (Swingin' Utters)! Do you have a favourite supergroup?

Spike: Hmmm...I dunno. Okay, I'll say 'Asia.' Actually, I hate them - but they're the only ones I could think of.

Team Digital: Asia? Sounds like something my parents might have listened to...but even my parents aren't that lame. We heard you guys are planning on recording a live album at some kid�s Bar Mitzvah, is this true?

Spike: Yeah, a kid turns 13 and apparently if you�re Jewish that means manhood. We're covering all public domain songs so we don't have to pay a f***ing cent for it! I think we're making special Yarmulkes and we�ll serve Manischewitz [wine] at the bar. We bring a bar with us wherever we go.

Team Digital: I've seen that bar onstage at Warped Tour! What's the most popular drink?

Spike: I was drinking Campari and soda but I think everyone else was drinking beers.

Team Digital: And while you weren�t drinking and performing, who was your favourite band to watch on the Warped Tour?

Spike: Probably the Dropkick Murphys because they had different bagpipers from electrician unions and stuff in every town we went to.

Team Digital: That sounds cool. AFI were on a few of the Warped Tour dates and we came across pics from a few years ago when you were dressed up like [lead singer] Davey Havok. How did it feel to be all gothed up?

Spike: I guess it's all about location. We were in Philadelphia at the time, so it was pretty embarrassing. It was hot and stupid there.

Team Digital: I hate it when it's hot and stupid out. Me First have done a ton of cover songs, has there ever been a song you�ve wanted to cover but the artist has turned you down?

Spike: No. I mean you sorta ask permission and they either respond or they don�t. You never hear back "No"...you just don�t hear back.

Team Digital: You definitely heard back from R.Kelly since you made 'I Believe I Can Fly.� There were a ton of cool cameos in the video for that song - was there anyone who you wished made an appearance but didn't?

Spike: Well, the obvious answer would be R.Kelly - but I can't say that I wish he came down to be in it. I dunno who I would have wanted in it, I haven't really thought about it. Jello [Biafra] was in it and that was good. I'm sure there were some people I wish hadn't been in the video but I'm not gonna say who they were.

Team Digital: We would have liked to see Whitney Houston in there. No we wouldn�t. So if you met R.Kelly, what would be the first thing you�d say?

Spike: (laughs) Oh man, I dunno.

Team Digital: Yeah, us neither.
