Name:

Steve Anthony

Hometown:

Montreal, QC

Occupation:

Radio Host & Voiceover Talent

Bio : Steve Anthony

Steve Anthony worked as a Much VJ from May '87 to November '95. His infectious personality, zany on-air antics and unpredictability made him a true fan favourite. So naturally, Much had to nab him to be a part of the Expert Panel for MuchMusic VJ Search: The Series.

Some Steve Anthony classics:

  • A Johnny Carson-style gag interview with Mötley Crüe
  • Mud surfing with fans at Woodstock '94
  • The "Sleep is for Wimps Marathon" where Anthony stayed awake on air for a solid 56 hours
  • Too Close For Comfort (Anthony and a panel of judges lambasted songs for sounding too much alike)
  • Cooking with Steve, featuring off-the-cuff interviews with artists while whipping up some grub
  • A game he called Who Dat? (grossly elasticized images made for lots of artist-recognition fun)
  • His brain-freeze stunt segment called Braino, where random fans chugged ice water just outside Much

Originally from Montreal, Anthony currently works as an Afternoon Radio Host at Toronto's MIX 99.9, and he provides the national and imaging voice for CHUM Television's A-Channel Network, SPACE: The Imagination Station and Drive-In Classics. In addition, his vocal talents have been used for a multitude of commercials and cartoons. Plus, he was the original "fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants" field host for Citytv Toronto's BreakfastTelevision for five years.

An unforgettable VJ icon, Anthony has this advice for hopefuls competing in MuchMusic VJ Search: The Series: "Break a leg! No, really... Break a leg!"

Screaming Girls Everywhere!

Steve Anthony

When Tim was revealed as the "wild card", there were screaming girls everywhere. Team Erik t-shirts in the crowd. The first official Sean fan club in the audience. Nikki lovers (not literally) everywhere. That was really really exciting. This show is a monster. People whom I would never think would be watching something like this are. I run into them everywhere. I met some grandparents walking their grandkid who stopped to talk to me about it (Sean is their choice, by the way). My friend Andrew Carter, the morning man at CJAD 800 in Montreal just wrote me and told me that "what I said about Sean (ie in a 5000 channel universe, while I was doing my video laps with my remote control, I would stop at muchmusic just to watch sean) was so true", and his daughter is texting for him. He says that she has never been this motivated. She has to get Sean on MuchMusic.

The show is bringing Canadian families together. How bold a claim is that?!?!

I am somewhat disappointed about something, though. The way the cameras were placed for the one-on-ones that Dina was doing had Robin in the background, and sometimes Traci, but not myself. The reason I am disappointed is because you couldn't see what Traci and I were doing; we were mocking Robin's posture. You know how he always has this "intense" look and pose? Everytime he shifted his posture, or fixed his hair or tapped his fingers or rubbed his hands or put on that "hard" face, Traci and I were doing the same thing. If that had been in the background, you would have thought it as funny as she and I did!

So, who's it gonna be?

Lemme know who and why, and I will try and get back to respond (no promises. Right now, in addition to my Mix 99.9 Toronto radio show, my weekend radio show on Sirius Satellite channel 95 and v.o. stuff for A-channel, Space and Drive-In Classics, I am also working on a way to irrigate the desertlands of the worlds to turn them into veritable jungle paradises, and that is eating up a lot of my extra time).
