All About Norm

Smooth talker, cutie, renaissance man. Yep, this boy can do it all - or at least he says he can! Hailing from Toronto, Norm loves to get the crowd's attention, whether it be from belting a tune, busting a rhyme or breaking down into a dance. He's feelin' Kanye West, The Black Eyed Peas and K-os and would love to interview Stevie Wonder. Take a peek at his audition tape and peep his Q&A!

Norm's Audition

Watch!

  • Why should you be a Much VJ?:
  • I was born to be in front of people. I'm a man of many talents and I have the ability to hold the crowd down from MCing and freestyle battling experience. Plus, I was ordained to be a pastor - whether it's on the pulpit or on the tube, I'm meant to be in front of people.
  • Formal education completed:
  • 2nd year college
  • Languages spoken:
  • English
  • Last job(s) held:
  • Recreational maintenance staff, host for the "Big Norm Show".
  • Describe your personality and style:
  • I'm a flamboyant Filipino freakshow with an urban funk flow! I am described as a spontaneous master of improvisation.
  • What are your strengths?:
  • I thrive in front of massive crowds and crave positive attention, which helps with my stage presence. I sing with a mean pitch and can rock a mic with a Nas-like swiftness.
  • What was the best concert you've ever attended and why?:
  • K-os and John Legend. I totally dig the music style so that made my concert experience that much more important.
  • What are your two favourite CDs, and what's the most recent you've listened to?:
  • "Beats, Rhymes and Life" by A Tribe called Quest, "College Dropout" by Kanye West. "Son Of A Street Animal" by Richi SOS.
  • Name three books that have influenced you:
  • The Bible, God's Debris, Chicken Soup for the Mother's Soul
  • What magazines do you read?:
  • Slam, Urbanology, Adbusters, Applied Arts, XXL, In Touch.
  • What are your goals?:
  • To become a media personality through my witty demeanour and boyish good looks. I want to pursue a career in creative advertising and hope to run an ad firm. I would also like to one day run a comedy club and hope to make success of my company: Toronto Street Comedy Productions.
  • What three artists would you most like to interview?:
  • Black Eyed Peas, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie
  • If you had the opportunity what one question would you ask...
  • 50 CENT: Do you think your success entitles you to be around the king of rap?
AVRIL LAVIGNE: Do you still like skater boys?
THE KILLERS: Can you imagine how much controversy your name would cause if you guys were a rap group?
COLDPLAY: Chris Martin - is Gwenyth Paltrow as tall as she looks on the silver screen?
  • What social issues interest you?:
  • I'm very interested in the elements of hip hop especially graffiti. I strongly believe the buffing of walls and the anti-postering laws are an outrage and hope to fight for our freedom to express art on any medium.
  • Who, in your opinion, are the most influential artists in music history?:
  • Madonna - she crossed boundaries no one would ever attempt to pass. Michael Jackson - no one has lasted as long as Mike! Biggie and Tupac - their short time on this earth was probably the most felt presence in music history, considering how long they were alive.
  • What does MuchMusic mean to you?:
  • MuchMusic is the ultimate media engine for music and pop culture and is an integral part of the Canadian music movement.
  • What are your favourite shows on Much?:
  • Pimp My Ride, RapCity, MuchVibe, MMVAs, Making The Band 2, MuchLoud.

They Didn't Give Me a Chance

Norm

So it's finally begun. The polls are open for people to vote their favourite loser back into the race. I have a feeling Tim is going to win because he's got a big fan base full of teeny boppin girly girls.

To tell you the truth, I want him back on if not me. Well actually, I want Natalie. I would say Frank too, but he had enough chances to show why he should be the VJ. Now on the other hand, I was cut first. I wasn't given the chance to redeem myself. I still don't even know why I got kicked off. Cause I was fake? HAHA. What you know about fake? I don't even want to go there. Should I have to? Whatever...cause I talk this so-called "Bullshit eloquence". At least I had something to say as opposed to saying nothing. Hell nah! But whatever...I'm not here to talk about the past. I'm here to talk about the future. The future of Much and the Vj it hires. I'm still confident that I have what it takes to be a VJ. I'm totally qualified for the position. I have hosting experience from all the events I've MC'd. And holding down large crowds of restless people is a hard thing to do. I have my own variety comedy showcase that I produced independently. The Big Norm Show is on its 6th show. I featured Beat Boxing choirs, half naked break dancing dykes, Freestyle rappers; Art shows showcasing Toronto's best graffiti artists, Electronic funk bobble headed dance troops, a ska band, a B-Boy Battle, and a concert featuring Dave Ghetto, Brass Munk and Circle Research. Music is like second nature to me. I have an extensive knowledge of music ranging from Bobby Womack and Donnie Hatthaway all the way down to Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins.

My knack for music is shown through the many hip-hop, Gospel and R&B tracks that I have produced, wrote, and lay down in various studios. I've performed and danced in front of thousands of screaming people at different venues like the skydome for Philippine National Independence Day and Cne for the Rising Star competition. I have on camera experience from the DVD Magazine I helped produce called DAPPZ the Series. I interviewed people like Farley Flex, Saukrates, Kenny and Ray Robinson, on the red carpet at the Canadian Urban Music Awards. I've had exclusive interviews with Afu Ra and Dip Sets own JR Writer. I have a keen sense of style, and I sure know how to get down to the boogie.

Now the question is...

Do you want a fun VJ that is overflowing with personality and a pretty twisted sense of humour? Do you want a VJ that has a lot of music knowledge and on stage and camera experience? Do you want a VJ with culture and a keen sense of fashion? Do you want someone real? Do you want originality? Vote for Norm. I promise that if I'm given a second chance, I will show y'all what you've missed.

Your VJ hopeful,
Big Norm
