The Final Four

Episode Recap

Check it out, the air is electric! Mostly cause there's a humongous audience buzzing off the excitement of seeing the end of this competition, when one finalist will be named MuchMusic's new VJ. You know, no biggie. Amidst cheers, Erik, Nikki and Sean enter the studio and chat with Dina. After a break, Dina sits down with each finalist for a one-on-one interview about moments in the show, their real life personalities and semi-scandals that rocked them during the competition. Each monkey answers a question from the audience, and as we can expect, they go for the gold (like, "what really happened with Casey-Jo?" Erik took the classic route and didn't tell a thing. Come on Erik! Juice!!) Then Dina brings out her serious voice and announces that the wildcard will be revealed after the break. When Tim walks onto the set, the other three finalists don't seem surprised, and the audience loses it.

Tim is completely overwhelmed with the fan support, and he sits down to answer some questions. Yes, he thinks it's completely fair that he's back, and no, he's not shy. And FYI, the penthouse off camera was pretty much G-rated. Next, the final four monkeys are challenged in the classic VJ Search pop culture-off, where their claims of music knowledge are truly put to the test. Sean kills it, and he wins pretty much fair and square despite a few questions almost tailor made for him (a Cher question! Owned!). After the challenge, the judge panel offer their opinions on who should win. For the record: Kardi says Nikki, Robin says Sean, Traci says Tim and Steve goes with Sean. Finally, the contestants get one last shot to convince the country why they should win, and Dina orders everyone to vote for their favourite. And when Dina talks, you listen.

Screaming Girls Everywhere!

Steve Anthony

When Tim was revealed as the "wild card", there were screaming girls everywhere. Team Erik t-shirts in the crowd. The first official Sean fan club in the audience. Nikki lovers (not literally) everywhere. That was really really exciting. This show is a monster. People whom I would never think would be watching something like this are. I run into them everywhere. I met some grandparents walking their grandkid who stopped to talk to me about it (Sean is their choice, by the way). My friend Andrew Carter, the morning man at CJAD 800 in Montreal just wrote me and told me that "what I said about Sean (ie in a 5000 channel universe, while I was doing my video laps with my remote control, I would stop at muchmusic just to watch sean) was so true", and his daughter is texting for him. He says that she has never been this motivated. She has to get Sean on MuchMusic.

The show is bringing Canadian families together. How bold a claim is that?!?!

I am somewhat disappointed about something, though. The way the cameras were placed for the one-on-ones that Dina was doing had Robin in the background, and sometimes Traci, but not myself. The reason I am disappointed is because you couldn't see what Traci and I were doing; we were mocking Robin's posture. You know how he always has this "intense" look and pose? Everytime he shifted his posture, or fixed his hair or tapped his fingers or rubbed his hands or put on that "hard" face, Traci and I were doing the same thing. If that had been in the background, you would have thought it as funny as she and I did!

So, who's it gonna be?

Lemme know who and why, and I will try and get back to respond (no promises. Right now, in addition to my Mix 99.9 Toronto radio show, my weekend radio show on Sirius Satellite channel 95 and v.o. stuff for A-channel, Space and Drive-In Classics, I am also working on a way to irrigate the desertlands of the worlds to turn them into veritable jungle paradises, and that is eating up a lot of my extra time).
