About

This year's list of nominees for the Polaris Music Prize showcases some of the best artists in the Canadian music scene. With acts representing the pop, rock and folk communities, the nominees are up for some tough competition. Arcade Fire, The Weeknd, Austra, Destroyer, Hey Rosetta! and more make up the stellar 2011 nomination short list.

The Polaris Music Prize judging panel is comprised of active members in Canadian journalism and media fields who short list 10 nominees from a list of 40 artists. The Polaris long list was announced on June 16, 2011 and included albums that had been released between June 1, 2010 to May 31, 2011. The winner from the short list, which was announced on July 6, 2011, will be revealed at the Polaris Music Prize gala held at the Masonic Temple in Toronto on Monday September 19, 2011 at 9pm. The event will be broadcast on MuchMusic and MuchMusic.com. The winner will be awarded $30,000 and their album will be given the title of Canadian Album of the Year.

Starting in 2006, the Polaris Music Prize is a not-for-profit organization that aims to bring recognition to the creativity, diversity and excellence in the Canadian music scene.
