Nick’s made a strong comeback with his second solo album “What’s Left Of Me”. We chatted with the heartthrob about phobias, a 98 Degrees reunion and pizza parlours before he appeared on MOD for the MMVA After Party Extravaganza!
Congratulations on your album being certified gold in the U.S.! So what’s different this time around, with the release of album #2?
Well, I think it’s just a little edgier across the board! And lyrically it’s much more honest, and vocally and musically it’s a little bit of a departure from where I was with 98 Degrees and on the last solo record as well.
During your MMVA performance of “What’s Left Of Me” you asked the crowd to sing back to you and they sure did! What’s that like for you?
It’s always a risky thing ’cause you’re hoping they actually DO sing back. Especially on live television! But it’s such a rush to hear that many people singing your song back to you, and knowing the words. It’s always fun to have that moment.
On the MMVA red carpet you alluded to a 98 Degrees reunion – can you tell us a little more about that?
We’ve just started to have those initial conversations about perhaps getting back together and singing again. If it does happen it’ll be interesting to see what kind of evolution we’ve made as a group and how our sound might have changed and certainly life’s changed quite a bit since then. It’ll be one of those things where we have to see what happens!
There’s no shortage of girls out there who have a crush on you - what are some of the qualities that you look for in a girlfriend?
I think sense of humour is great. And someone who cherishes the same things in life that I do – family, kids and all that. And someone who’s got her own drive and ambition and things that she’s interested in achieving in life.
When you’re in the spotlight people think they know everything about you. What’s something people might not know about you? Are you a closet Buffy fan, or do you know how to make a good pizza?
I do know how to make a good pizza! My first job was actually in a pizza parlour making pizzas so that’s a good one – I don’t think many people know that!. People always ask me to tell them something they don’t already know and I have no idea at this point! I feel like so much of it’s out there, I couldn’t begin to tell you what isn’t!
We did read that you’re really scared of sharks…
I’m petrified of sharks! Sharks and tornadoes are my two phobias. I’ve snorkeled over sharks before – that was interesting. Not sure I’d ever wanna do that again!
Here’s a ‘would you rather’ question. Would you rather suck on a used bandaid found in a men’s locker room, or scuba dive with hammerhead sharks?
Bandaid in a heartbeat! It’s not even close. You’re not gonna die from doing that!
You’ve been in Toronto for a couple days, have you hit up any hot spots?
We went to Ultra after the MMVAs. The thing I’ve noticed about Toronto since being here is that a lot of these bars and restaurants have these outdoor roof terraces and patios. The city is just beautiful, and so nice to be out there at night and take that in. I’ve really enjoyed it!

We talked to Dallas about making videos, new Alexisonfire material and going on tour with Dashboard Confessional!
We pulled frontman Patrick to ask him a coupla questions about their upcoming album, high school dances & John Hughes!!
It's not like it's any surprise, but Tom and Dave from Hedley are the office jerk types.
