Coupla Questions: City and Colour

City And Colour

Dallas Green’s mellow side project City And Colour is enjoying tons of success in Canada, having just been certified gold! We chatted with Dallas about making videos, new Alexisonfire material and going on tour with Dashboard Confessional!

Congratulations on your album “Sometimes” being gold certified in Canada! A lot of people may not know this, but gold certified in Canada isn’t the same as in the U.S. (50,000 vs. 500,000).

That’s still pretty freaking awesome though! It’s ’cause there are 300 million people and only like 30 million in Canada. I’m pretty sure that’s why it’s different. I’ve got my third gold record now, hanging on my wall.

We heard that your next single is going to be “Coming Home”. Have you thought about what you’d like to do for a video?

I’m actually going to be doing it at the very end of June. A guy named Chris Sargeant is directing it and it’s really gonna be weird. Not too weird, but a lot of imagery for sure. It’s hard to explain. It’s way different than my first video. There’s a storyline to it, and I’m also in it. I had no input into this video, which is a first. Me and Alexisonfire are both doing videos with Chris just to change it up a bit, to have someone who has complete input into what the video is gonna be, to see what it’s like.

How do you get psyched up for a City And Colour show vs. getting ready for an AOF show?

With Alexisonfire we make fun of each other a bunch and tell funny jokes and stuff like that. With City And Colour I just there by myself and wait to go on. I just hope that I have a good singing performance and psych myself up that way.

Can you tell us a little bit about Crisis, the new Alexisonfire record?

It’s being released around the third week of August. Julius Buddy, who did our last record, he produced it again. It’s – I think – the best thing we’ve ever done. I love it. It’s little more rockin’, a little more straightforward.

Once that’s out, will you put City And Colour to bed and focus on AOF?

I’ll put City And Colour to the side for a bit, and just work on it whenever I have time. When we’re in full force on tour, I won’t have time to work on it!

You’re about to go on tour with Dashboard Confessional – are you excited?

It’ll be interesting. It’s in really big rooms and it’s just me and a guitar so we’ll see how it goes!
