Done Like Dinner (And We Want More)

Ain't No Party Like An MMVA Party

Whoa, nelly! The 2005 MMVAs were quite an extravaganza, and in case you missed even the teeniest bit of it, we got up close and personal to bring you highlights and pics from the entire soiree!

Billy Talent rolling down the red carpet in a gargantuan tank was a showstopper when the show had hardly even begun! The boys had that bad boy on loan from the Oshawa Military Museum (it was Ben's idea). The guys said that they "sweated [their] bags off" while waiting to get out! Ewww. Not as intimidating but equally as original were Cone and Stevo from Sum 41, who caught rides on rickshaws with their own Harajuku girls. Oh yeah, and how's about those aerobic dancers who showed up to reverse thrust the carpet in the spirit of Eric Prydz' "Call On Me" vid? Take a peep at our red carpet clips and pics for more fun.

Once the awards kicked off, the night was ripe with raucous and inspired performances that got both the crowds and the MMVA guests excited. Probably the most buzzed-about set was courtesy of The Arcade Fire, who rounded up a marching band for their performance of "Rebellion (Lies)" - Alexisonfire and k-os were part of crowd who caught that one. At the end of the night after announcing The Killers, reality TV stars Rob and Amber danced and hugged while the band sang "All These Things That I've Done". Want more performance action? Check out our video highlights and pics.

Leave it to the MMVAs to bring together people who normally wouldn't hang out together or even really chat - like Mo Pete of the Raptors and Kalan Porter. Mo graciously complimented Kalan on his emerald green blazer. Maybe, just maybe, Mo voted for Kalan during Canadian Idol.

Hey, you know what else the MMVAs are good for? Spontaneity. While the show happens, it's completely live and ready for action, and well - let's just say the awards were full of thrills. During Alexisonfire's performance, a masked streaker in his tightie whities mounted George's back. This masked hoodlum turned out to be none other than our own Rick Campanelli. When The Black Eyed Peas performed "Don't Phunk With My Heart", a random partyer climbed onstage and waved his hands around like he just didn't care. There's a distinct possibility that he started to care when security immediately (and forcibly) removed him. Fefe Dobson let an obscenity slip when she announced the People's Choice Favourite Canadian Artist as "Kalan F***ing Porter", then shrugged her shoulders as if to say, "Yeah I swore. So?"

Of course, after the show is the afterparty and amongst the swarms were none other than former VJs Bradford and Amanda, as well as Billy Talent and Alexisonfire who partied together. Also chillin' at the party was The Arcade Fire, Shawn Desman, The Killers and Death From Above 1979 (DFA 1979's Jesse even hit the ones and twos).

So yeah, the 2005 MMVAs rocked, rolled, ruled and rampaged. Take red carpet hysterics, add a generous helping of piping hot performances and chaotic crowds, throw in some unpredictable moments and you've got yourself one hot party! And next year, we'll do it all over again!
