Caley "Hooks" Up With Friend And Lost Boy Josh Blasman

February 23rd 2012 blog image

#DoAwesome’s Caley skyped Mountain Dew® Do Awesome Tour snowboarder and friend Josh Blasman to chat about his haphazard snow posse the Lost Boys, his obsession with fishing, and capturing it all in his blogs.

A couple of years ago I was invited on a rail trip with Camp of Champions to Smithers, BC. Heading into the trip I had no idea who else would be involved, or the adventure we were about to embark on. In the parking lot on the morning of the trip there were a lot of new faces, one being a tall lanky brunette guy dressed in black with a goofy look on his face. I could tell instantly he would be a token player of the trip. And a token he was, that guy was Josh Blasman, a snowboarding fisherman straight out of Ontario. I caught up with Josh to talk about what he is up to lately and how he got involved with the Mountain Dew® Do Awesome Tour.

Josh, I originally met you in Whistler, but you are from the east coast right? Where?
Yaa, I am from Kitchener, Ontario.

What was it that brought you out to Whistler?
I always thought of going west when I finished high school, so that's what I did. Whistler seemed like the easiest place to get a job and stuff. Now that I look back I really wish I would have gone to Revelstoke or something, but I've met tons of awesome people in Whis, so I'm glad that's what I did.

A good group of people can make the biggest difference. The line up for the Mountain Dew® Do Awesome Tour is pretty sweet. I even think a couple of your fellow "Lost Boys" from Whistler are competing. Can you explain to everyone who and what the "Lost Boys" are?

Hahaha, ya that’s one of the main reasons I entered the contest. I saw that some of the boys were on the list so it looked like it'd be fun. The Lost Boys is just a bunch of friends who like to snowboard and don’t take life too seriously. We're just a really good group of friends. We all kinda met in Whistler. The name Lost Boys I guess started when everyone was wearing jean shorts all summer long and someone said we looked like the lost boys from Hook.

Everyone always asks what the whole deal is about us, but I really don't like answering that because it's not like we're some sort of club or that you can define who we are. Our blog is www.thelostboys.blogspot.com. It's kind of weak right now, but we started posting stuff again recently.

Speaking of blogs, I’ve heard rumors that you are hosting your own fishing blog. What is it and tell us about your deal with fishing?
Hahaha, you would bring this up. The website is www.fishthisworld.com. I'm obsessed with fishing. I have been since I could walk. I was that kid in school that was drawing pictures of fish all day long. Everyone would always make jokes about me having my own fishing show one day. Anyway, I started making little crappy videos of my fishing adventures and posting them up on this site.

So if the opportunity presented itself to essentially host a fishing show, would you?
Yes, I would totally be down for that, hahaha. This year I’m actually gonna try to make some next level fishing edits.

Your life seems pretty awesome. Any advice on how to get where you are?
Stop listening to other people tell you how to live and don’t think you gotta live the way other people do.

So you’re saying essentially to carve your own path. Where are the best places you have traveled to?
Antarctica, South Africa, Italy, Argentina and Hawaii.

And finally what music are you listening to along the way?

Blue Jeans - Lana Del Ray
Sprawl 2- Arcade Fire
The Black Keys - Little Black Submarine
The weight - the band
Highwayman - The Highwaymen

Thanks for your time Josh, see you on March 2-3 at the Mountain Dew® event in Toronto!

Josh compares snowboarding to fishing; they’re both sports that let him “live in the moment”.
