FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Think you've got what it takes to be music's next superstar? Have questions about our Covers competition? We're here to help!

Q1. What is the prize?
If you are one of the Top 3 Finalists, you will be featured in your own commercial and win a VIP trip to the 2012 MMVAs for you and a friend.

If you are the Covers MuchMusic Video Award winner, you will get a digital song release and music video for your own original song!

But we promise that's not all - we will have many exciting opportunities for entrants throughout the competition, trust us ;)
Q2. What exactly is a song 'cover'?
A song cover is a performance of a song that was first made popular by someone else. We have selected a number of different songs for you to cover - choose 1, or cover them all! Use your own original ideas to change up the song's style and make it your own, or sing it as it was recorded (but better!). Stick to the song's original lyrics, but make sure your rendition contains only your own original music and vocals.

Still not sure you understand? Browse through the gallery of entries that we've got so far!
Q3. Am I allowed to use the original music and sing over it?
This isn't karaoke! You cannot use the original soundtrack and sing over it; you are not able to use any of the original elements of the song. It's up to you to recreate the song in your own way - perform the instrumentals acoustically, mix it up electronically, or even sing to no music at all.
Q4. Can I change the lyrics?
No. Please make sure you sing the song's original lyrics only. Show us your creativity by changing up the way you sing the lyrics, but don't change the words! We've provided the lyrics to each song to make sure you get it right.
Q5. Do I have to cover the entire song?
Nope! Cover as much or as little as you like.
Q6. Can I include my friends in my video?
Unfortunately not! We are looking for ONE superstar, so we want all the focus to be on you! You cannot have friends perform in your video. Please perform the covers by yourself, using only your own talents, and please make sure that you are the only person in your videos.
Q7. I want to enter, but I can't sing/play an instrument/etc. What do I do?
We still want you to enter! Whether you're a great singer without any instrumental skills or a talented drummer with a horrible voice, we still want to see your talent. Why not perform an instrumental cover, or sing acapella? Show off the skills that you have, and don't worry about the ones you don't!
Q8. Am I eligible to enter?
If you're a Canadian resident and at least 13 years old as of February 27, 2012, go wild! Due to popular demand, we have lowered the age range this year so that entrants can be as young as 13 years old.

Please note that, unfortunately, this competition is not open to residents of Quebec or to employees and their parents, siblings and children, and those domiciled with such employees, of Bell Canada Enterprises, Coca-Cola Ltd. and Coca-Cola Refreshments Canada Company.
Q9. How many times can I enter?
You are allowed to create one profile, and you are allowed to submit one cover per song. You are only able to submit each song cover once, so make sure you're happy with it before you submit!

If you create multiple profiles, they will be deleted. If you submit multiple covers of the same song, they will not be approved.
Q10. Am I allowed to enter with a friend?
No. While we love the magic of duets, we are looking for one person who is the most talented and who we can turn into a celebrity! Please perform your song covers by yourself and ensure that all elements of your performance are your work. If you have talented friends, encourage them to enter, too! If you are in a band, each member may enter individually.
Q11. I am currently signed to a label. Am I allowed to enter?
Nope. We are looking for undiscovered talent - an amateur with potential that we can support all the way to the top!
Q12. Do I need to agree to Terms and Conditions before I enter?
Yes. You MUST read and understand the official contest Terms and Conditions before you enter the competition, and you must also agree to a Personal Release. Both documents are available for you to read on the homepage and the profile registration page. You'll be asked to agree to the terms of both documents before officially registering you profile.
Q13. After I agree to the Terms and Conditions and Personal Release, will I need to agree to anything else?
If you are chosen to move forward in the competition, you may be required to provide more documents and complete more release forms. For example, if you are selected as a Semi-Finalist, you will be asked to fill out a detailed release form and to provide us with two pieces of identification (including a government-issued photo id - like a driver's licence or health card). If you are lucky enough to be our Grand Prize winner, certain aspects of the Grand Prize may require you to sign agreements and other documents.
Q14. When is the entry deadline?
You have until Sunday, April 15th to create your profile and submit videos. You should enter sooner rather than later, though, because you'll want your videos to get a ton of ratings so that the judges will notice you!
Q15. K, so what do I have to do to enter?
Entering the Covers competition is a 4-step process:

STEP 1: Create a profile - The first step is for you to register with the competition. Make sure you include information that allows your fans to discover who you are when they check out your covers!

STEP 2: Receive your profile URL - Once you've registered, you will see your shortened profile URL at muchcovers.co.ke. This URL links directly to your personal page, so make sure you bookmark it and use when asking people to rate you!

STEP 3: Record and submit your original song cover - Film yourself performing a song cover, using your own vocals and music. Upload your video to YouTube, then log in and submit the YouTube link to your profile. Alternatively, you may send your video to us via email by contacting connect@bellmedia.ca and including COVERS ENTRY: FirstName LastName in the subject line. Any videos you send via email must adhere to a 15 megabyte size limit and must be in either a mpeg, mp4, avi, mov, or wmv format. Your email must also include your personalized profile link.

Please be patient, as your video will need to be approved by Much producers before it goes live on your page. If your video is not approved, you will be contacted with the reason why..

STEP 4: Repeat - Continue to submit your song covers, promote yourself and get your friends to rate you, and wait to see if you make it to the next round!
Q16. Can I change my videos once they've been submitted?
Unfortunately you cannot. Make sure your submissions count, because you'll be stuck with them. :P
Q17. Why was my video not approved?
Your video may be rejected if it:
> Contains a song that is not one of the approved Covers songs.
> Is not linked to the correct song (for example, if you perform a Hedley cover but submit it in the Selena box).
> Contains another person other than yourself.
> Contains song lyrics different than those that we have provided on the site for the specific song that you are covering.
> Contains any trademarked or copyrighted material (make sure there are no recognizable logos, people, or images!).
> Contains profanity, defamatory or obscene content or includes themes of hate and/or violence.
Much producers reserve the right to reject or disqualify any entry at any time for any reason whatsoever.

> You have already created a profile.
> You are not at least 13 years of age.
> You are not a Canadian resident.
> You are a resident of Quebec.
> You are, or are related to, a Bell or Coke employee, as is clarified in the Terms and Conditions.
